Fáilte Ireland has lodged an objection with Longford County Council about a proposal to erect a large wind turbine in the Granardkill area just outside Granard town.
The objection from the tourism body is listed with almost 30 objections from individuals and a small number of groups also opposed to the development.
A planning application for the turbine was lodged last month by local company Kiernan Milling who want to erect it as part of a part of an ongoing and large scale expansion of its premises on the outskirts of the town.
The turbine would be 169 metres in height and any submissions on the project had to be lodged with the council on or before last Friday.
A decision is due on or before the 17th of July.
A local group has been established in recent weeks to oppose the erection pf the turbine.
They've now been joined by objections from the Granardkill Residents Association and a submission from the Granard Motte Community Enterprise Group.
While the concerns from most individual objections centre on possible shadow flicker and health issues , the other main issue for the groups and the objection form Failte Ireland is the impact on the plans for a major tourism development which will involve a normal village beside the Motte.
Failte Ireland says it considers the development would seriously detract from the value of the tourism amenities and the cultural heritage aspects of the area and is therefore requesting that planning not be granted.
An objection is also listed from Connie Kiernan who says he is concerned about the impact of a turbine close to a private airfield in the area.
Longford County Council are due to make a ruling on the applications in the next few weeks but could also request further information which would delay any decision.
