It's hoped work might begin later this year on construction.

Failte Ireland expects the Norman Heritage Park in Granard to open in the next two years.

The tourism body has confirmed that the project, which will encompass the historic motte in the north Longford town, is at the design and development stage.

Funding of over €600,000 was announced in July 2019 for the visitor attraction, which was based around the re-creation of a  Norman village.

The project has also received funding of three million euro under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund.

It was earmarked to open in 2021 but the pandemic significantly delayed the project and Fáilte Ireland now hopes to see the doors open in 2024.
