Upcoming Failte Ireland workshops in the Shannonside region will aid local communities to harness the most of out of local tourism.
Failte Ireland is inviting people from across Roscommon, Leitrim, Longford and Cavan to attend one of a number of public meetings being held over the next month.
The Failte Ireland Destination and Experience Development Plan is a five year tourism plan designed to grow Ireland's Hidden Heartlands region.
The public consultation will allow locals to guide the development of tourism offerings in their own region while also showing them how their own attractions or businesses can weave into the plan.
The events take place across Leitrim, Roscommon and Cavan starting this week in Strokestown at the Park House on Tuesday the 21st from 7pm.
Sarah MacCarthy from Failte Ireland says that regenerative and sustainable tourism can have major benefits for both communities and visitors:
"Some people may be uncertain about what exactly it means for them and how it will affect them. This is one of the reasons why we are holding consultations with the community because within Ireland's Hidden Heartlands, one of our 5 strategic objectives is to establish the region as one of the leading regenerative tourism destinations in Europe and at the heart of regenerative tourism is that tourism is of benefit to the communities and the environment as much as it is to the visitor and the tourism industry".
