Failte Ireland is hosting a number of drop-in clinics in the coming days in the Shannonside region to help local communities develop tourism in sustainable ways.
Residents across Roscommon and Longford are invited to attend the meetings about the Regenerative Tourism Scheme this week.
As part of this scheme, workers and communities that were heavily dependent on peat will be provided with new employment opportunities through diversification in their local economies.
The events take place from half six to half eight in the Abbey Hotel in Roscommon tomorrow Tuesday, the Longford Arms Hotel in Longford Town on Wednesday and in The Shearwater Hotel in Ballinasloe next Monday.
Head of Hidden Heartlands Paddy Matthews says these clinics are important to create regenerative tourism in local areas:
'We're going to launch a series of public consultation events for the week of the 8th and the 15th of May where we want to hear from local communities and tourism businesses about what their ideas are.
This will help us refine and fine tune a regenerative tourism scheme for the Just Transition area over the next four years.'
