Family Carers Ireland will officially open their new Longford/Westmeath support centre later today.
The facility which was previously located on St John’s Terrace in Mullingar will now re-open on Castle Street.
The event will get underway at 3pm with Ministers Mary Butler and Robert Troy performing the official opening.
The centre will offer services to over 1000 family carers across Westmeath and Longford giving them the opportunity to take part in training and workshops as well as giving advice and information.
Speaking to Shannonside FM Care Support Manager Paul Farrell believes centre will be of huge benefit to home carers.
''We have carers coming in who have just come as far as they can at this time and they're burnt out, and we'd be able to refer them to our in house counselling. We have a team of counsellors that offer virtual counselling for people and some face to face. And then there are carers who, you know, maybe just want to be linked in a bit more.''
