Family of eight forced to live in one-bedroom caravan

The local authority says it can only place the family in a five-bedroomed house, but said no such property was currently available.

A family of eight from Ballinasloe have been forced to live in a one-bedroomed caravan since February of last year.
Martin and Margaret Corcoran have issued a renewed appeal to Galway County Council to provide them and their six children with a house.
The local authority says it can only place the family in a five-bedroomed house, but said no such property was currently available.

The family had been renting an apartment for 15 years but were left homeless when their landlord sold the property.
The Corcorans' children are aged between 5 and 16 years, and their eldest son sleeps on the floor of the caravan.
Martin Corcoran says the caravan has no heating, electricity or running water and the recent cold snap has made life extremely difficult.
Speaking to the Joe Finnegan show, he said the family would accept temporary accommodation until a more permanent home can be found:
