Family and friends of Longford man Joe Doran will walk 5 kilometres in Lough Key Forest Park today to raise awareness and funds for people impacted by Huntington's Disease.
The neurological disease causes cells in the brain to gradually malfunction and die, resulting in changes in movement, thinking and emotions.
There are presently around 700 people battling the disease in Ireland but facilities to help sufferers are limited.
Joe Doran was admitted to a specialist HD unit in Dublin last year which is run by a charity and which needs funds to improve services for residents.
His family have already fundraised for equipment which can be used by everyone in the unit and they say they will continue to help in whatever way they can.
