A popular Athlone nursing home has announced they are to close their doors.
Stella Maris Nursing home in Athlone has been operating for 35 years at Baylough, Athlone.
The small family run centre provides twenty-four hour general nursing care for up to 25 residents.
In a statement posted to Facebook last night, management said soaring costs and unrealistic expectaions from HIQA are two of the reasons why they've been forced wind down their operation.
Recent inspections of the facility had noted that staff were kind and caring and that residents were well supported and happy living in the centre.
The facility is currently in the process of finding new homes for residents and helping in their transition.
It's the second family run care facility to close in the last month, following an announcement by Costello's Nursing home in Lanesboro due to similar issues.
