The founder of the National Famine Museum in Strokestown will complete a charity walk of the National Famine Way today, on his 90th birthday. Jim Callery took on the 165km walk, following in the footsteps of famine victims, in a bid to raise funds for modern day immigration. He has so far raised over €50,000, greatly surpassing his initial target of €25,000.
The epic journey is set to finish this lunchtime at EPIC, the Irish Emigration Museum and the National Famine Memorial on Custom House Quay, Dublin. Jim said it was a very different walk to the one faced by those who were forced from their homes at the height of the famine in 1847.
