Two secondary schools in Longford town are to amalgamate and become co-ed, in a historic decision.
It has been officially announced boys' school St Mel's College and girls' school Scoil Mhuire are to merge.
The new school will be known as Coláiste Mel agus Mhuire and will be based on the St Mel's site.

Funding is to be sought from the Department of Education for new facilities.
It marks the end of an era for St Mel's, which opened over 150 years ago.
