Farm families in the region are being advised to attend a special meeting in Carrick-on-Shannon tomorrow evening.
The meeting has been organised by IFA and the topics of farm succession, planning and taxation will be addressed by expert speakers on the night.
Mary McGovern, who's from the Leitrim IFA Farm Family Committee, says it's well known that succession can be a very sensitive topic and that many families don't want to start the conversation for fear of upset.
She says that events like tomorrow night's meeting can be a way of raising the topic and get some advice that may save a lot of money for the family in the future
"It's so difficult sometimes for families to talk about the subject. It's a very sensitive area and quite difficult to actually make a plan and get started. You could have an older couple concerned about their future income and their standard of life or a younger person who's keen to be progressive and wants control of the farm or business. There might be several children in the family and what to do with the farm and assets can be a difficult decision".
The meeting takes place in the Bush Hotel in Carrick-on-Shannon on this Thursday night October 20th at 8pm.
