Farmers across the region are being encouraged to attend a meeting in Limerick on next Tuesday about Climate Change and the challenges it will bring the sector.
The meeting has been organised by the IFA and is aimed at bringing farmers and policy makers together to discuss unprecedented changes that will be happening in the coming years.
Guest Speakers at the meeting will include the Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue, the Director of Teagasc Professor Frank O'Meara, and Professor Peter Thorne who's a climatologist at Maynooth University.
Longford IFA Chairman Gavin White says there are still a lot of issues to be worked out regarding farmer's participation in climate change measures introduced by the government and this meeting should provide a good forum for discussion.
"Some people would say the climate actions plan is already set out by the government, which is is, but there's still a huge amount of detail to be worked out between the government and the farmers. There is scope for changes up and down, plusses and minuses for farmers and government along the way. They'll be talking about agri emissions, land re-wetting, nature restoration, sustainable use of land even if it's been re-wetted or gone into an environmental scheme. Of course, the new ACRES scheme will be a part of that".
