Farmers across the region are being encouraged to take part in a new online survey on farm crime.
The survey will be undertaken by the IFA in partnership with the Technological University of Dublin.
The findings will help to develop a national picture of farm crime around the country and can be used to identify what measures might be taken by government, An Garda Síochána and other agencies to reduce criminal activity.
Barry Carey is Crime Prevention Officer with the IFA and is asking farmers to take a few minutes to take part in the survey.
He's also encouraging farmers to continue to take their property along to be marked for security reasons and says it really does pose a deterrent to thieves:
"Trailers and quad bikes are probably top of the list of rural crime thieves, so again property marking is huge. The second thing property marking does, that if you happen to be the victim and things are taken, you have a great chance of having your property recovered because you have an Eircode or you have a marking on it. And the third thing that happens with property marking is that the perpetrators can face prosecution."
