People tracing their heritage and connection to the Farrell surname make a substantial contribution to Longford's tourism industry each year.

The Ó Fearghail  name has spread across the world with thousands expected to take part in the next Farrell Clan Rally in Longford in July 2026.
Organised by the Farrell Clan, the celebration sees people travel to the midlands to explore the history behind the name.
Chair of the Farrell Clan Committee Robert Farrell says close to 100 people come to Longford each year in search of their family history.
Speaking to Shannonside FM News, the Longford man says it has a great knock on benefit for local tourism:
