A local member of Fianna Fáil's national executive believes the party can retain seats in Roscommon despite a number of councillors announcing they would not be contesting next year's local election. The party has been dealt a blow in the county in recent months following confirmation that John Cummins, Orla Leyden and Joe Murphy would be withdrawing from political life.
The party's CDC Chairman and well-known auctioneer, Padraig Burke, says he's confident new candidates will secure seats in each of the Municipal Districts. Mr Burke said the party was currently looking at potential candidates in the Boyle Municipal District and a selection convention would take place early in the new year.
