Local Independent TD Marc MacSharry believes the current Fianna Fail Party has strayed away from it's original routes.
The Sligo Leitrim Deputy has today announced his intention not to contest the next General Election.
In a statement earlier, the former Fianna Fail TD said it had been an 'extraordinary privilege' to serve in the Oireachtas since 2002.
Deputy MacSharry was elected to the Seanad on three occasions between 2002 and 2016.
He went on to successfully contest the 2016 general election in the Sligo- Leitrim constituency and retained his seat in 2020.
He was removed from the party whip in 2021 when he refused to back Government in the no confidence motion in Simon Coveney in the Katherine Zapone scandal.
He later resigned from the party proper in 2022 following the handling of a complaint made against him by a local Fianna Fail Councillor.
