A former Roscommon cathaoirleach says Fianna Fáil's decision to run one candidate in the constituency is due to the party not winning a seat last time out.
The party decided this week not to add Senator Eugene Murphy to their ticket in Roscommon-Galway, fuelling speculation about his future.
Senator Murphy has yet to rule out running as an Independent candidate after he failed in his bid to gain a nomination.
