The party decided this week not to add Senator Eugene Murphy to their ticket in Roscommon-Galway, fuelling speculation about his future.

A former Roscommon cathaoirleach says Fianna Fáil's decision to run one candidate in the constituency is due to the party not winning a seat last time out.

The party decided this week not to add Senator Eugene Murphy to their ticket in Roscommon-Galway, fuelling speculation about his future.

Senator Murphy has yet to rule out running as an Independent candidate after he failed in his bid to gain a nomination.

The Scramogue man lost out narrowly to Dr Martin Daly in the Fianna Fáil selection convention earlier this month.

Shannonside political analyst Ivan Connaughton believes the party is reluctant to split its vote in Roscommon-Galway.

He says the party faithful have put their faith in the Ballygar GP:
