Longford County Council's battle against illegal dumping has taken a significant step forward. The local authority has completed a public consultation on the provision of CCTV in public areas around the county. The CCTV will be intended to prevent illegal dumping and enforcing the Litter Pollution Act. Through public engagement, ten areas in the county have been identified as dumping black spots.
These include Main Street, Grafton Court and Bridge Street in Longford Town as well as Corlea and Feraghfad. Bring banks in the county have also been identified as key locations for new anti dumping CCTV. Sylvia Kilcline, Senior Executive Officer in the Environment Section in Longford County Council, says while the formal public consultation is over, the council will continue to engage with those highlighting problem areas:
