A total of seventeen convictions have been recorded in local courts for breaches of Covid rules so far this year.
Over €4,000 euro remains unpaid by people who have appeared in court for breaching Covid-19 laws.
According to details released under Freedom of Information, fewer than five people were convicted in 2020 in local courts for Covid-related offences.
Three people were convicted in the Carrick-on-Shannon district last year with fines imposed for two offences, which were fully paid.
However, there has been a significant spike in Covid related offences appealing before local courts in recent weeks and months.
Between January and mid-September of this year, 17 people were convicted of Covid-related breaches by judges sitting in local District Courts - with almost €4,000 euro in fines left to be paid.
10 people were convicted in Longford for a total of ten offences - with fines totally €2,305 still outstanding.
One conviction was secured at Ballaghaderreen district court but no fine was imposed.
Four convictions were secured in Strokestown - with €1200 of fines left unpaid and just two convictions have been secured in Carrick-on-Shannon- with fines of €200 remaining to be paid.
