2,400 claims have been made in the Shannonside Region for the new renters tax credit since its introduction last year.
The figures were released by the Department of Finance, with less than half of renters so far claiming the support nationally.
The low number is partly due to landlords not being registered with the RTB, a requirement for the credit.
The majority of the claims were made in Roscommon, where 1,006 renters applied for the credit.
That is followed by Longford where 891 applications were put in.
Meanwhile, just 501 renters submitted a claim for the €500 credit, the lowest figure in the country.
Marian Ryan from website Taxback.com says many renters are being denied the chance to get the support.
'There does seem to be a big difference there like with only 154,000 out of the 400 claiming it there
That's only 40% , not even 40%, of people there, so I think a lot of it is that the landlords are just simply refusing, and if you don't like the situation at it is , ' you can move on, I 've got 40 people waiting to take your spot.'
