Over 40% of cars tested in NCT centres in the Shannonside region in the last 12 months failed.
According to figures published by the test operator, Castlerea was the centre with the highest percentage of failures in the region.
Between January 5th 2023 and this year, just under 100,000 NCT inspections were carried out in centres across the region.
Of the 5 centres located in Longford, Leitrim, and Roscommon, Castlerea had the higest amount of inspection failures with 45.7% of cars not passing.
Athlone had the highest number of tests carried out at 27,928, with 44.4% of these registered as fails.
The Longford and Carrick-on-Shannon centres had similar fail rates at 42.3% and 43.3% respecively.
The Mullingar test centre had the lowest fail rate at 37.4%.
A total of 8,000 dangerous fails were logged in the region in the last 12 months
