The majority of employees across the Shannonside region are based in either manufacturing or retail trade.
The figures are contained in the latest release from the Central Statistics Office on business demography
According to the report, close to 6,000 people were employed in either the retail trade or manufacturing sectors across Longford, Leitrim, and Roscommon in 2021.
The manufacturing sector had the most employees in Longford at 2,024, followed by Wholesale and Retail Trade at 1,470, and Human Health and Work Activities at 1,427.
The demographic was slighlty different in Roscommon, with Retail Trade including repair of vehicles and motorbikes being the sector with the most employees at over 2,800.
This was followed by Human Health and Work Activities at over 2,000.
In Leitrim, Retail Trade was the most popular sector with 1,012 employees, followed by manufacturing at 970, and Construction at 751.
Nationally Wholesale Trade was sector with the most employees in 2021 with over 361,000 people employed.
