A new 50-bed ward under construction at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe is undergoing its final site works ahead of its official opening in the coming months. The €15 million project began construction in 2022 with a focus on future expansion possibilities a priority in its design. The project will include a 4,000 square metre building with a 50-bed unit and a link corridor incorporating lift and storage area. The unit will also feature separate en-suite rooms for the purpose of effective infection control.
In an update provided to Councillor Evelyn Parsons at the recent Western Region Health Forum, the Saolta Hospital Group say the hospital and HSE West Estates are currently working through the snag list with the developer. It's expected the new ward will open in the next two months.
