Fine Gael candidates are faring well in the final tallies across Local Electoral Areas in Co. Longford.
Garry Murtagh is the front-runner in the Granard Local Electoral Area, securing 1,438 votes in total.
Murtagh is followed by Independent candidate, Turlough McGovern at 1,407 votes, and Paraic Brady of Fine Gael at 1,188.
Meanwhile, Fine Gael's Gerry Hagan is leading the tally for the Longford Local Electoral Area at 1,051 votes in total.
Indeed Hagan is followed by Fine Gael's Gerry Hagan at 1,049 votes, and Fianna Fáil candidate Seamus Butler at 1,024.
Longford local election ballot papers will be transported to the count centre in Edgeworthstown shortly, with the count formally commencing at 6pm.
