A potential Fine Gael election candidate believes the party can win a seat in Roscommon-Galway for the first time in over 13 years. The party has faced criticism in the constituency following the closure of Roscommon A&E by a Fine Gael-led Government in 2011. South Roscommon councillor John Naughten, however, believes the tide is turning in terms of public opinion. The Drum native confirmed today that he will contest the Fine Gael selection convention later this month. His brother Denis famously left the Fine Gael party over the closure of the A&E in Roscommon. Speaking to me Shannonside News, Cllr John Naughten said the hospital issue can finally be overcome:
And Ballinasloe councillor Alan Harney has also been nominated to contest the Fine Gael selection convention in the Roscommon-Galway constituency. The recently-elected councillor is one of four names now in the race, following the closure of nominations this evening. Also in the race are Ballinasloe Senator Aisling Dolan and Dympna Daly-Finn, from Arigna.
