Just two days after the end of the local election, Fine Gael Councillors have secured control of Longford County Council.
Eight Fine Gael, eight Fianna Fail and two independent Councillors were successful in taking or re taking seats on the local council.
Independent Councillor in Granard Turlough McGovern and Lanesboro's Mark Casey negotiated a deal with Fine Gael early this morning.
The agreement continues the deal struck over the last five years between the party and Turlough McGovern, with that deal now including Councillor Casey.
The council's annual general meeting will take place next week, where the Cathaoirleach of the County for 2024/25 will be appointed
