Frank Feighan was the only candidate chosen at the Sligo-Leitrim selection convention last night.

A total of 429 party members voted in the Clayton Hotel in Sligo.

Sitting TD Frank Feighan, from Boyle, and John Perry, from Ballymote, have both been nominated - along with Sligo councillor Thomas Walsh.

It's also emerged Dympna Daly-Finn wants to run for the party in the Roscommon-Galway selection convention on September 20th.

Fine Gael have failed to win a seat in the constituency since the 2011 General Election.

The Ballymote man was first elected to the Dáil in 1997 and served as a TD for 19 years in a row.

Sitting Fine Gael TD in the constituency, Frank Feighan, has already confirmed that he is seeking to retain his Dáil seat.
