The first sitting of Roscommon court in its new temporary location will take place today.
A large €1.1 million refurbishment has taken place at the former Fairyland dance hall to facilitate the move.
The old courthouse was completed in 1828 and designed by Sir Richard Morrison however it's been deemed inadequate for the advances of the modern world, particularly in terms of accessibility and technology.
The new location on the Racecourse Road has been fitted out with state of the art facilities however it's hoped the old courthouse will also be renovated having been included in the Government's National Development Plan 2018-2027.
Senator Eugene Murphy welcomed the considerable money spent on the new courthouse and says he will now work on ensuring the necessary repairs are carried out on the old courthouse building.
