The need for permits to fish the River Suck and its tributaries has been abolished.
A call to scrap the €45 fee was made earlier this year by Roscommon County Councillor Anthony Waldron.
He claimed the requirement of a permit to fish the river was driving anglers and fishing tourism away.
At a recent meeting of the Inland Fisheries Board it was decided to do away with fishing licences on the River.
Councillor Waldron has welcomed the abolishment and says it's a major boost to the tourism offering in the county.
