A local TD has called on the Taoiseach to intervene in a bid to prevent proposed EU regulations from 'driving farmers from the land'.
Independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice claims Brussels is using Ireland's own financial contributions against farmers, by imposing a 'slew of restrictions' on farming activities crucial to the State.
He said farmers with 'peaty' land applying for the BISS, or single farm payment, would be most affected by the proposed restrictions.
