Local councillor Laurence Fallon says the flood threat for homeowners and farmers on the banks of Lough Funshinagh has gone beyond a crisis.

The L-2005 at Ballagh near the infamous turlough will be closed from 11am on Monday to facilitate the works.

The funds have been ring fenced to construct a containment structure with a headwall and a removal weir.

Minister Charlie McConalogue will bring the scheme to Cabinet tomorrow morning, aimed at relieving pressure on producers affected by flooding.

It comes as Ireland prepares for more severe weather conditions with the arrival of Storm Ciarán tomorrow.

Locals and farmers are to gather at the Meelick Weir from 1 o'clock.
