Forestry companies are being called on to clear large incidents of illegal dumping at plantations in County Leitrim.
The March meeting of the Ballinamore Municipal District heard that the owner of the land where illegal dumping takes place is responsible for its clean-up and Councillor Gerry Dolan highlighted an issue of illegal dumping in Aughacashel, and appealed to forestry owners to clean-up lands where dumping has taken place.
Director of services Vincent Dwyer revealed that house to house surveys can be carried out as part of detailed investigations into illegal dumping in order to find the perpetrators and the Council has a specified process to establish how illegally dumped items end up in a certain location.
