The Minister with responsibility for Forestry says there is scope to broaden the range of trees planted in Ireland.
Pippa Hackett says a new portal to allow people and communities track forestry developments will be unveiled in the Autumn.
It's part of a number measures brought to cabinet last week that will go through the Dail when it reconvenes after the summer break.
The amendment to the Agriculture Appeals Act will align the forestry licencing and appeals processes with the planning processes as we;; as develop a new scheme for the creation of native woodlands on state and other public lands;
Speaking on Let's Talk this afternoon, Minister Hackett says it's hoped that a broader review of forresty in Ireland will also address diversification:
