The man behind the hacking of a local MEPs Twitter account has been sentenced in a Belgian Court today.
The case surrounds the social media account of MEP Luke Ming Flanagan, which the Court found had been breached in 2020.
Former European parliamentary assistant Diarmuid Hayes admitted in court last month to hacking the Twitter account of Midlands-North West MEP.
Mr Hayes posted a tweet from the MEP's account that referred to Irish Green Party candidate Saoirse McHugh as "skinny dipping".
Mr Hayes has been sentenced to over 120 hours of community service and to pay cash compensation of €5,000 plus costs.
In a statement posted on X, MEP Flanagan welcomed the decision from the Belgian Court.
