Senator Eugene Murphy has so far failed to get a nomination to run in the Seanad elections - with less than 24 hours to go before a key deadline. The closing date to have a nomination from an outside body is 12 noon tomorrow. Senator Murphy quit Fianna Fáil after they failed to select him to run in the general election in Roscommon-Galway, and ran unsuccessfully as an Independent. He says he's disappointed not to have got a Seanad nomination yet - but hasn't given up hope.
You can also run in the Seanad elections if you get four Oireachtas members to nominate you, by the end of this month. But Senator Murphy says that route is a "really long-shot option" for him, as he's no longer in a party. He says he only has a 50-50 chance of being on the ballot paper next month.
