The former St. Brigid's Campus in Ballinasloe has been described as 'a blight on the landscape' of the town. The HSE is currently completing an internal review process based on a completed professional valuation as part of efforts to dispose of the significant property. Local Councillor Alan Harney has highlighted concerns that the buildings are falling into disrepair and the surrounding land is becoming overgrown and unsightly. At a recent meeting of the Western Region Health Forum, Councillor Harney called for a maintenance fund to be put in place to clean up the land and improve to facade of the buildings.
However, HSE Estates argue that they have a limited maintenance budget and prioritise works at active facilities. The Fine Gael Councillor has called for an independent development board to be put in place to deliver a concrete plan for the future of the site.
