Former councillor Gerry Dolan, from Drumshanbo, is due to receive a retirement gratuity of almost €100,000. In total, former councillors in Leitrim are in line for almost €434,000 after June's local elections. Six councillors in County Leitrim retired from local politics at the local elections in June. They are entitled to gratuities that are based on their length of service. Independent Gerry Dolan was a councillor for almost 33 years, and he's due to get just under €96,000.
Fenagh man Caillian Ellis, from Fianna Fáil, and north Leitrim's Frank Dolan, from Fine Gael, were both almost 25 years on the council. They are due to get over €90,000 each. Fine Gael councillor Sean McDermott, from Glenfarne, was almost 20 years on the council and is due to get just under €90,000. Carrick-on-Shannon's Finola Armstrong-McGuire is in line for €45,000 euro for 10 years' service. And her Fine Gael colleague, Thomas Mulligan, from Mohill, is in line for €22,600 for five years' service. All of the amounts are gross and Leitrim County Council is in the process of paying them, with three already paid and two more being paid later this month.
