A newly retired Leitrim judge admits it's very frustrating that he has bene forced to retire at the age of 70.
Kevin Kilraine stepped down from his role as a judge in the north-west in recent weeks after 15 years.
The former solicitor believes that he is physically and mentally well enough to continue, but cannot due to rules surrounding the judiciary.
The Leitrim native believes the rule makes no sense when there are court sittings being cancelled because of a lack of judges across the country.
In many cases, or many courts today are going to be cancelled because of the shortage of Judges. So it's something that is very unfortunate and I would have liked to stay on longer.
I'm in good health. I have not retired, I have been shall we say made to retire at the age of seventy. And I'm now sitting at home, twiddling my thumbs when I should be working.
