A former Fianna Fáil politician has paid tribute to late Roscommon councillor Anthony Waldron, saying he played a pivotal role in supporting those suffering from rural isolation. Eugene Murphy described the Ballintubber man as a 'very close friend' and said they often spent hours talking about the issues of the day. Cllr Waldron passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday morning at the age of 64.
His funeral is expected to take place in St Bride's Church in Ballintubber on Friday, with burial afterwards in Aghamore, near Ballyhaunis. Mr Murphy was paying tribute to him today:
