The death has been reported of former Longford Fine Gael councillor Victor Kiernan.
The Killoe man had served as a member of the local authority for over twenty years and stepped down from politics eight years ago.
The Fine Gael politician was well regarded by his council colleagues of all political persuasions, and also in his local community where he was a well-known businessman. He was a blacksmith by trade and was involved with many heritage projects in the area over the years.
Tributes are being paid to the late councillor today by many council colleagues who served with him on the local authority.
