Former Longford hotelier to be sentenced on money laundering charges today

Frank Kilbride of Aughakilmore, Ballinalee in Longford officially plead guilty to three charges under Money Laundering legislation.

A former Longford hotelier and local politician will be sentenced today over multi million euro money laundering charges.

Frank Kilbride of Aughakilmore, Ballinalee in Longford officially plead guilty to three charges under Money Laundering legislation at Longford Circuit Court in January.

The charges state that Mr Kilbride, on various dates between October 2017 and March 2018, engaged in converting, transferring, handling, acquiring and possessing property that was the proceeds of criminal conduct to the approximate amount of 1.7 million euro.

A second charge brought against the former Fine Gael politician had him taking part in money laundering between November 2017 and March 2018, to the amount of €867,143.

While a third charge, bringing the total to 2.6 million euro, included the handling, possession and conversion of €10,000 of proceeds of criminal conduct.

Frank Kilbride served on Longford County Council 3 times between 1999 and 2009, unsuccessfully contesting local elections in 2014 and 2019, as well as the 2020 General election
