A motion calling for mandatory courses on alcohol, gambling, and substance abuse for GAA players is unlikely to pass the organisation's annual congress.
That's according to former Roscommon GAA manager and addiction Councillor, Justin Campbell who says it's not the right approach to tackle the issue.
The Congress will take place in the NUI Galway Connacht GAA Airdome tomorrow with 48 motions due to be discussed.
Motion 34 from the Rathdowney-Errill GAA club proposes that all players who wish to participate in an adult championship match must complete courses approved by Central Council on Alcohol, Gambling, and Substance abuse, with failure to do so resulting in a one match suspension.
Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, Justin Campbell says senior players must set the example for club members when it comes to behaviour on and off the pitch.
The former Roscommon GAA manager says the issue needs to be tackled, but perhaps not in this way.
