Former TD and Senator Gabrielle Mc Fadden says she would be honoured to be considered as a replacement for MEP Mairead McGuinness if she was chosen to succeed Phil Hogan as EU Commissioner.
The government has been asked to nominate a male and female candidate to be the next commissioner, and Mairead McGuinness who's presently EU Vice President, has confirmed she would be interested in the role.
While the government has yet to officially declare who they'll be nominating it's widely believed that so far the main contender is Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney.
In the event of the government putting Mairead McGuinness forward and her getting the job, it would then be a matter of choosing her replacement from a list drawn up before the EU elections last year.
Gabrielle Mc Fadden says her name is one of those on that list and she'd be delighted to represent Ireland at EU level if the chance came around….
