Over four hundred fewer people were availing of unemployment benefit last month compared to August across the Shannonside region.
New figures from the CSO show that Roscommon recorded the biggest decrease in its Live Register figures in September in the region.
The Live Register normally shows a decrease between August and September which has been previously been linked third level students going back to college.
This year Leitrim's live register decreased by a total of 102 between August and September and is at the lowest level since April of this year at 1,738 people..
In Longford, 158 fewer people were on the live register last month - with a total of 2,510 people unemployed in the county.
The biggest decrease month-on-month in the Shannonside region was recorded in Roscommon, where 160 fewer people were on the live register between August and September.
The county's total unemployment figure is now 2,047.
Athlone's unemployment figure dropped by a total of 127 people and Mullingar's decreased by 92.
