Tributes are being paid today to former Leitrim Fianna Fail Councillor Francie Gilmartin who died yesterday.
He served for 15 years as a member of Leitrim County Council before falling victim to the redrawn local electoral areas in 2014.
Widely regarded as a hardworking and committed councillor during his official term Francie Gilmartin continued to serve on a number of local groups after he lost his seat and was involved in several projects in the Keshcarrigan and wider area.
Today's meeting of Ballinamore Municipal District was adjourned for a time as a mark of respect to the former councillor.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound news the Cathaoirleach of Leitrim council Paddy O' Rourke paid tribute to the impact Francie Gilmartin had in making sure the local community got the services they needed:
Francie Gilmartin will be laid to rest in the cemetery at St Brigid's Church in Drumcong following funeral mass at 11 0' clock on this Wednesday.
