Two local representatives are calling for the immediate suspension of road works in Frenchpark.
Deputy Claire Kerrane and Councillor Michael Mulligan believe the construction of a new layout on the Boyle road will achieve nothing as regards a slowdown of traffic.
They claim residents in the village were not consulted by the Council over the plans which will see the removal of parking outside their homes.
Deputy Kerrane feels traffic lights which have been granted for Frenchpark are the only safety solution measure.
The Sinn Fein representatives say they monitored traffic flow in the village over the weekend and have now branded the structure dangerous
"I do not believe that a paved structure from the pavement out into the middle of the road is going to be a fix. I don't believe it's going to slow traffic down and I don't believe it's going to make the area more safe. We're talking about elderly residents who will no longer be able to park outside their front door. This is their home. They haven't been consulted, they haven't seen any plans. Work began late last week and there's a lost of frustration and anger".
