A Frenchpark shop owner believes the installation of traffic lights in the village will cause congestion at peak times.
That's according to Pat Mitchell who feels traffic calming measures would be a better solution along the N5 and R361.
Earlier this week Transport Infrastructure Ireland approved funding for the lights at the busy junction and Roscommon County Council will now prepare the design for construction.
The local businessman says it's outrageous the number of collisions that have occurred at the junction but he fears this plan will result in long lines of traffic stuck in the village.
'I could see an awful hold up if there's a long stop , personally I think traffic calming would be much better,
I can't see lights working, but again it's about stopping accidents and anything that stops accidents would be better than nothing.'
