It's hoped road works on the N63 in Longford town will be complete by the end of September.
That's according to Councillor Seamus Butler who believes the Major Wells road project is the slowest in the country.
The works began in late October of last year and the completion date for the works has now been extended for the third time.
It's understood the delivery of special curbing delayed the project however the Fianna Fail representative believes these should have been ordered in advance.
Speaking to Shannonside FM Councillor Butler is concerned it could be closer to the end of the year before the works are finished and he's now calling for resources to be put in place to sped up the project.
''At the rate it's going at the moment I expect there will be further delays. It's, you know, a very short stretch of road, approximately 250 meters long. The length of time it's taken is just disproportionate. And really they want to put resources in there and get a move on. Eventually we want to have this as a county road and divert all heavy goods traffic, off that and round the town.''
