The kitchen service area in a Leitrim bar was closed last month as it allegedly posed a danger to public health according to the Food Safety Authority.
Inspectors found nine major issues of concern at Mitchell's Bar on Main Street in Carrigallen and a closure order was enforced following the failure to address non-compliances.
The order was imposed on the 11th of November, by inspectors who claimed they observed practices that gave rise to the contamination of food.
Inspectors claimed there was no evidence of an appropriate food safety culture; a package of striploin steak was past its use-by-date, indicating according to the FSAI a failure in operational practice and monitoring procedures.
The inspectors also claimed the premises was not maintained in a clean condition and adequate procedures were not in place to control the entry of pests.
Inspectors also found that traceability information of purchased produce was not available.
Food handlers had not been trained in food hygiene matters and examiners found just one employee had a certificate for a training course which was dated 2003.
Similar breaches of legislation have occured since 2015 at the Leitrim bar.
Two prosecutions were taken by the FSAI in relation to Food and Feed Hygiene at Arrabawn Co-Op in Ballinasloe and the former quality manager at the company.
They were fined a combined total of 46,500 euro.
Overall eight Closure Orders and one Prohibition Order were served on food businesses during the month of November for breaches of food safety legislation.
