Funding of 30,000 euro has been allocated for safety improvement works on the Old Tuam Road in south Roscommon.
Local councillor John Naughten says safety on the route has been an ongoing issue for residents in the area and he's raised the matter on several occasion in the past years.
The councillor says while Roscommon County Council has made significant investment in upgrading the road infrastructure, such as footpaths and lighting and reducing the road width, there's still a problem with the issue of speeding traffic.
He says he hopes this additional funding of 30,000 euro will go some way towards making sure that traffic is slowed on the route, and improving safety for local residents and road users alike.
